Transforming Lives: Women Act’s Mission to Empower Women and Girls
Women Acting for Transformative Change (Women Act) is a national level, non-profit making, non-governmental organization (NGO) established in 2007 as a network of 35 leading women-led NGOs and networks of Nepal to address gender inequality and work for the empowerment of women and girls. It was legally registered in District Administration Office (DAO) of Kathmandu and in Social Welfare Council (SWC) of Nepal as an NGO in 2011.
Women Act believes that, for Nepal to become more democratic and to achieve development, it must give women equal access to resources and decision-making opportunities. Hence, gender equality is fundamental in achieving good governance, economic growth and development. With prominent and diverse women activists as its board members and dedicated and professional staffs, Women Act has a progressive history of working on gender equality and women’s empowerment through policy advocacy, legislative reforms, capacity development, creating economic opportunities and livelihoods development of Nepalese women and girls.
WHAT WE DO
We work for women and girls to empower them economically, socially and politically through advocacy, sensitization and lobbying for policy making to build an inclusive just society. Our programs and activities address pertinent issues that are affecting women’s development in Nepal, especially focusing on governance, gender inequality and marginalization of women and girls.
