Women Act successfully organized a two days National Conference on the Private Sector Partnership for Gender Equality: Issues and Opportunities in Nepal from December 10-11, 2018 at Hotel Annapurna, Kathmandu. The Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) and Nepal Bankers’ Association were the co-organizers of the conference. More than 150 participants representing government agencies, private sector organizations, academia, media, and right activists enthusiastically participated in the conference and expressed their solidarity for the conference. Women Act organized this conference as part of its private sector partnership campaign to assess the issues and opportunities in terms of private sector engagement for gender equality in Nepal.
This two-day conference, inaugurated by the Hon’ble Finance Minister Dr. Yuba Raj Khatiwada, provided a unique opportunity to learn key insights from experts and concerned actors from around the country and explored strategies as well as approaches for engaging private sector for women’s equality and empowerment. The experts in this field presented thematic papers on the conference themes and issues. Ms. Mio Yokota, Head of UN Women’s Economic Empowerment Unit, President of Nepal Banker’s Association Mr. Gyanendra Dhungana and Vice President of FNCCI Mr. Kishor Pradhananga spoke about the conference theme during the inauguration session (opening plenary) of the conference. The conference was supported by Nepal Telecom, Nepal Tourism Board, Little Angels Education Group, OXFAM Nepal, CARE Nepal, FHI 360, IM Nepal, Helen Keller International, Mega Bank, Sanima Bank, and Kumari Bank.
